The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HEFRA) has issued a statement applauding JoyNews and the Multimedia Group for the recent "Sick Hospital" feature story, which highlighted alarming conditions at the Tafo Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region.
The production by JoyNews’ Nana Boakye Yiadom raised concerns about inadequate infrastructure, and lack of essential medical supplies, prompting widespread public outcry.
In the statement, HEFRA acknowledged the issues raised in the feature and expressed its commitment to ensuring that all healthcare facilities meet the required standards for quality and safety.
The agency emphasised that it takes the concerns of the public seriously and is dedicated to improving healthcare delivery in Ghana.
"The agency is very much concerned with standards in our health facilities and is willing to work with all stakeholders to ensure quality health standards in all our health facilities," the statement said.
The agency outlined several steps it plans to take in response to the concerns raised at the Tafo Government Hospital, including conducting thorough inspection of the facilities.

“A team will be sent to the facility to assess the severity of the situation and take steps to ensure that basic minimum standards are maintained at the Tafo Government Hospital,” said HEFRA.
The "Sick Hospital" feature has sparked a national conversation about the state of healthcare in Ghana, with many citizens calling for urgent reforms to address the systemic challenges affecting health facilities.
The response from HEFRA has been met with cautious optimism, as stakeholders await tangible actions to improve the quality of healthcare services at the Tafo Government Hospital.
