Former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has declared her full support for Dr Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) again, arguing that he deserves a second chance just like past leaders who eventually won after multiple attempts.
Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews on Thursday, March 20, she dismissed claims that Bawumia is unpopular, insisting that history shows many successful political leaders in Ghana's elections did not win on their first attempt.
"We are going to bring Dr Bawumia back as flagbearer for the NPP. He is the best person to lead the party. We have marketed him before, and we will market him again. Every person deserves a second chance," she said.
Adwoa Safo pointed to past Ghanaian presidents who contested multiple times before securing victory.
"Former President Kufuor went how many times before he got the nod? Former President Akufo-Addo contested in 2007 and lost, went again in 2012 and lost. After the 2016 election petition, he finally won. Even Prof Mills contested several times before winning, and President Mahama has also run multiple times. So why are they telling Dr Bawumia that Ghanaians don’t like him? And now they want to put that in a report and expect us to accept it? No," she stated.
She rejected efforts to stop Bawumia’s supporters from speaking out, saying that everyone has a right to express their views within the party.
"Nobody brought me into this party, and the party does not belong to any one person. We are all here to build the party, so nobody can force me out. Other people speak, and when other people speak and it is not for something that is pushing for the Bawumia agenda, that is okay but when it is for something that is for the Bawumia agenda, everybody should keep quiet. We will not be suppressed," she said.
Adwoa Safo clearly stated her support for Bawumia and vowed to continue to push for his presidency.
"We will not resign until we have Dr Bawumia as the president of this country. He deserves it. He is a humble person, an honest person," she said.
