The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, has acknowledged the critical role that the Ghana Navy plays in protecting Ghana's territorial waters as part of its traditional duties.
He said the role of the naval commands requires that they work hand in hand with the government to protect businesses and social activities connected to the sea and the country's territorial waters.
The Minister was addressing the Western Naval Command in Sekondi as part of his familiarisation tour of the various security commands in the region on Tuesday, 18th February 2025.
According to Hon. Joseph Nelson, the economic survival of Ghanaians in the country hinges on proper security coordination and social protection, all being provided by the command in collaboration with the government.

He said the Western Naval command has consistently carried out its mandate in such a way that all Ghanaians could have freedom and the assurance to go about with their daily activities without fear or anxiety.
Hon. Joseph Nelson acknowledged the challenges confronting the command as outlined by the leadership and promised to work closely with them to resolve these issues.

"Despite the challenges, I know you are up to the task, so let's keep our eyes on the ball and continue to maintain security in the country”.
He said maintaining security in the country would allow citizens to have peace and tranquillity.
"While you work on our security, the rest of us [citizens] can afford to also have our peace"
The Minister, while commending the command, said other significant areas of security ought to be tackled and ought to be discussed behind closed doors. "There are some other areas to talk about beyond here," he said.

He told the command to work assiduously with all stakeholders to contribute to the progress of the region.
As Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), he assured the command of his commitment to honour all invitations being extended to his office.
Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo, the Flag Officer commanding the Western Naval Command, who led the command to engage the Minister, assured him of their commitment to protect the national interest at all times as part of their core mandate.

He also assured the Minister of their cooperation and solidarity following his assumption of office as the Chairman of the Regional Security Council.
