The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has called for fairness and adherence to due process in the investigation of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Opoku emphasized that while accountability is crucial in governance, it must be pursued in a manner that respects the fundamental rights of every Ghanaian. He noted that if there is sufficient evidence to prosecute Ofori-Atta, the law should take its course, but warned against actions that could undermine the integrity of the legal process.
“The fight against corruption must be rooted in transparency and fairness. If there is credible evidence, the former Minister should be held accountable, but we must not allow political undertones or procedural lapses to overshadow justice,” Opoku stated.
His comments come in response to the OSP’s recent designation of Ofori-Atta as a fugitive. The Mpraeso MP urged the Special Prosecutor’s office to handle the matter with professionalism, ensuring that legal processes are followed without bias or undue external influence.
Opoku reiterated his commitment to upholding good governance and called on public institutions to strengthen their investigative frameworks to prevent any semblance of political victimization in corruption-related cases.
