The Executive Director of the Institute for Energy Security (IES) has expressed gratitude to the President for entrusting a significant ministerial portfolio to a young Ghanaian as part of his first three ministerial appointments.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News’ Upfront, Nana Amoasi VII lauded the decision to appoint John Jinapor as a strong statement of faith in the capabilities of the country’s youth.

“This appointment shows that the President rewards performance,” Nana Amoasi VII stated.

He highlighted John Jinapor’s vast experience in the energy sector, describing him as a proven leader with a track record of impactful contributions.

“John Jinapor has been a deputy minister before for roughly four years. He’s equally been a ranking member for the mines or energy sector.

"His voice has been very critical, and his contributions to debates in the energy sector are well known to everybody.”

Nana Amoasi VII pointed out that Mr Jinapor’s academic credentials, coupled with his practical experience, make him uniquely suited for the role.

“The President believes that he is able to handle such a big portfolio because he also has the human skills and all that. Aside from the experience on the ground, the books also support him.

"He has studied a bit of economics and also energy economics. That’s very critical to support him in his work,” he explained.

The IES Executive Director stated that this appointment is not only an endorsement of Mr Jinapor’s past achievements but also a testament to the confidence the President places in the country’s younger generation.

“It also shows that the President has faith in the youth of this country. For a young man, a 45-year-old, to be given such a huge portfolio as a test case for the youth is something remarkable,” he noted.

Nana Amoasi VII expressed optimism about John Jinapor’s ability to succeed in his new role, provided he maintains humility and collaboration with stakeholders.

“If he’s not going to change, and he’s going to be humble and cooperative enough with the stakeholders, I’m sure he will work and perform very well in the sector,” he said.

Nana Amoasi VII thanked President Mahama for his progressive vision.

“I want to say thank you very much, Mr. President, for believing in the youth of Ghana. This is an important moment for us as a nation, and I am hopeful this faith will inspire many young people to strive for excellence and serve our country with dedication.”

Nana Amoasi VII concluded by reaffirming his confidence in John Jinapor’s ability to deliver in this high-stakes position.

“This is an endorsement of the work he’s done over the previous years. It’s a great opportunity, and I believe he will rise to the occasion.”
