The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, a beacon of knowledge and innovation, played host to the champions of the 2024 Inter-School Reading Quiz (ISRQ) from Ghana.
Grace Appiah, Gloria Appiah, and Ewurabena Koranteng Asante - book lovers and academic prodigies described their visit as a dream come true.
Nestled along the Dubai Creek, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library is a marvel of modern architecture and intellectual legacy. Shaped like a traditional Islamic lectern, the library spans a staggering 54,000 square meters and houses over a million print and digital books. Its cutting-edge design incorporates artificial intelligence and robotics, making it one of the most advanced libraries in the world. For the young champions, the experience was nothing short of breathtaking.
The trio’s adventure began in the Children’s Library, a vibrant space designed to ignite curiosity and creativity in young minds. Featuring thousands of books, interactive displays, and storytelling corners, this section captivated the girls. Gloria shared, “It felt like stepping into a magical world where every book was a gateway to an incredible adventure.”
Next, the group explored the Young Adult Library, a sanctuary for teenagers with a passion for learning. Grace marveled at the collection of novels, graphic novels, and educational resources, describing it as “an inspiration for anyone who loves to read and dream.”
The tour reached its pinnacle at the Book Museum, home to some of the most treasured works in literary history. The girls were awestruck by rare manuscripts, including a centuries-old copy of the Quran, handwritten on parchment, and early editions of classical texts. Other highlights included ancient papyrus scrolls and illuminated manuscripts that transported the young readers through the annals of time.
In the Media and Arts Library, the champions explored an impressive collection of films, photographs, and music. This dynamic space celebrates creative expression, offering a unique blend of traditional and modern art forms. “It’s amazing how the library integrates technology and culture so seamlessly,” Ewurabena remarked.
Beyond the guided tours, the girls took time to indulge in their favourite pastime - reading. Immersed in the serene ambience of the library, they leafed through pages of literature that spanned genres and eras. “Reading here feels different,” Grace observed. “It’s as if the walls themselves inspire you to dive deeper into knowledge.”
Their visit was not just about exploring books but also about soaking in the history and innovation that the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library embodies. As they left, the girls expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity. Gloria summed it up, saying, “This library has opened our minds to new possibilities and reminded us of the beauty and power of knowledge.”
For Grace, Gloria, and Ewurabena, the visit was more than a tour—it was an unforgettable chapter in their lifelong love affair with books. As they continue their academic journeys, the memories of their time at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will undoubtedly inspire them to reach even greater heights.
