The former Chief Executive of Dalex Finance, Kenneth Thompson, has praised the President’s choices for his first ministerial appointments, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver results.
His commendation comes after the announcement of the President's initial list of three ministerial appointments on Thursday, 9 January 2025.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Wednesday, January 10, Mr Thompson highlighted some important qualities to look for when appointing ministers to various ministries.
“Look for somebody with experience, who understands what they are going to do and has done it before, and who can communicate – knows how to speak because you need to speak to people. The economy is about sentiments, you know; it’s very critical that you communicate. Somebody who has a network, a network of people, because you need to make phone calls because you need help,” he explained.
He also stressed the importance of energy in such roles, expressing his enthusiasm over the appointment of a young individual to the Financial sector.
Mr Thompson further noted that the Energy sector is in a difficult situation and requires the efforts of young, energetic individuals in such ministries.
“The Energy sector is one that is in a mess, and no matter how we try to put a hole over the hype, it’s an absolute mess. And he is also young, he talks about it knowledgeably; he’s just experienced. At least, in these key areas, we have young people – and I stress the word young, because you can have all the knowledge in the world, all the experience in the world, but if you don’t have energy, if you don’t have passion, you can’t execute,” he said.
