Outgoing Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has made a GHȼ200,000 donation to traders of Kantamanto Market in Accra, to support the on-going reconstruction of the market after it was ravaged by fire.
The entire market was burnt earlier in the week through a devastating fire, with thousands of traders losing their shops, stalls, and investments.
During a visit to the market Monday afternoon to inspect the damage caused, Dr. Bawumia commiserated with the traders and extended financial support of GHȼ200,000 to the traders to support the reconstruction of the market, which is already underway.
"What I have seen is very sad and devastating. You have lost your investment and your livelihood and we share in your loss and pains," Dr. Bawumia told the traders.
With reconstruction of the market already underway through the traders own efforts, Dr. Bawumia expressed delight, adding that his monetary donation is to support the reconstruction of the market.
In addition to the monetary support, Dr. Bawumia pledged to personally install CCTV cameras in the market to enhance security for the traders. He also assured them of his continuous support even as he is going out of government.
"Even though I am going out of government, this will be my personal contribution. I will continue to be with you," he assured the traders.
The traders expressed immense gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for his visit and support "in this trying time."
