Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, January 6, took President-elect John Dramani Mahama on a tour of the Jubilee House as part of the transitional process before the official handing-over ceremony scheduled for today, Tuesday, January 7.
The tour symbolised Ghana’s commitment to peaceful transitions and offered the incoming President an opportunity to familiarise himself with his soon-to-be office.
Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a former Communications Minister during Mahama's first term, shared a memorable moment from the tour.
In a Facebook post, he recounted a brief but profound interaction with the outgoing President Akufo-Addo during the event.
“When we were departing, President Akufo-Addo exclaimed while shaking my hand, ‘Doc, Back Again!’” Dr Omane Boamah wrote. Reflecting on this statement, he described it as both profound and fulfilling, underscoring the cyclical nature of leadership and the opportunities it presents for continuity and progress.
The gesture highlights the significance of Ghana’s political culture, where despite partisan differences, leaders can engage in mutual respect during critical moments of transition.
Dr Omane Boamah’s reflections further emphasise the shared responsibility of building the nation, regardless of political affiliations.
