The Majority Leader of the 8th Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has commended the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, for his leadership of a resilient and challenging opposition caucus.
His remarks came during his final address to the House prior to the dissolution of the 8th Parliament.
Reflecting on their interactions, Afenyo-Markin shared anecdotes that highlighted the firmness of Dr Forson's leadership.
"Mr Speaker, Ato Forson will talk to you nicely but will call you at 5am and say, ‘Kwamena, no deal. The political committee of our party has opposed it,’” he recounted, illustrating the determined stance often taken by the Minority on key matters.
The Majority Leader admitted that dealing with the Minority was a formidable task. “Mr Speaker, the Minority were such a tough, stubborn, and difficult group. You could never have an agreement with them because they were sneering power, and I understand,” he stated, acknowledging the intensity of the political dynamics at play.
Despite occasional tensions, Afenyo-Markin's remarks underscored a sense of mutual respect between the two leaders.
His reflections captured the challenging yet vital role of the Minority in ensuring accountability and rigorous debate in the legislative process.
