Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has made a donation to support traders who were affected by the fire that gutted the Kantamanto Market in Accra on January 2, 2025.
The blaze, which started at dawn on Thursday, January 2, ravaged large sections of the market, affecting over 30,000 traders and destroying more than 7,000 shops.
Efforts to combat the fire were hampered by water shortages and logistical challenges, which prolonged the damage.
In a post made on her Instagram page on Sunday, January 5, 2025, Wendy Shay shared a video of her visit to Kantamanto with the caption: "Earlier this afternoon I passed by Kantamanto to support those affected by the fire outbreak. May God strengthen them in this difficult time."
Wendy is seen in the video showering money on the traders and also donating an undisclosed amount of money in a envelope to them.
Some of the traders commended her for the kind gesture, with some vowing to support Wendy in all her endeavours.
Since the incident happened, other public figures such as O.K. Frimpong, the Member of Parliament-elect for Asante Akyem North Constituency, and Nana Kwame Bediako, a business mogul and presidential aspirant for the 2024 election, have visited the place.
