Economist Dr Sa-ad Iddrisu has urged members of the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to avoid greed.
“Basically, this government shouldn’t be greedy. They should prioritize Ghanaians, focus on the economy, and within the NDC, they should eschew greed,” he advised the incoming administration.
According to Dr Iddrisu, “Greed is one of the factors that led to the NPP’s defeat,” and he urged the NDC to learn from that.
He further stated that if the NDC does not rid itself of greed, it will result in incompetent individuals being given roles, which could lead to poor governance.
“Greed leads to people not getting the right positions they deserve, as it rewards loyalty over competency. And once you do that, you mess up big time,” he said.
Dr Iddrisu was speaking on the Joy News AM Show on Monday with Sweety Aborchie when he was asked about his expectations of the next government.
The NDC lost power in 2016, paving the way for Ghana’s former Attorney General, Nana Akufo-Addo, to become the country’s 7th president.
He retained power in 2020, but in the December 2024 elections, the NPP lost power to the NDC.
On Tuesday, January 7, the Nana Akufo-Addo government will hand over to the NDC’s president-elect, John Mahama.
