The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Electoral Commission (EC) are set to return to court today, December 31, to address disputes over the collation of results in contested constituencies, including Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central.
This follows a Supreme Court ruling that quashed a High Court decision that ordered the EC to re-collate election results for some constituencies.
Based on the re-collations, the EC subsequently declared NPP candidates as winners in seven constituencies.
The NDC, challenging the re-collations, argued before the Supreme Court that their candidates’ rights to natural justice were violated as they were not granted a hearing at the High Court.
They also alleged bias on the part of the presiding judge.
The Supreme Court upheld the NDC’s argument on the violation of natural justice, overturning the High Court's ruling.
However, the apex court found no evidence of bias against the presiding judge. It has ordered the reassignment of the case to a new judge for further deliberation.
