The Tema West MP, Carlos Ahenkorah, has strongly advocated for Davis Ansah Opoku aka “OPK,” to be appointed as the Chief Whip or one of the Deputy Whips in the next Parliament.
He made the call during an interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on Okay FM, urging the Eastern Region and the National Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consider OPK for the crucial leadership role.
Highlighting OPK’s unique blend of leadership qualities, Mr Ahenkorah described him as a results-oriented leader with exceptional organisational skills and the ability to unite people across political divides.
“Both sides of the House like OPK. His ability to build relationships and foster cooperation is a rare attribute, especially in these politically charged times.
"He has the charisma and the discipline to bring our caucus together while effectively countering the NDC in opposition,” he stated.
The Tema West MP also emphasised OPK’s fearless and strategic approach to politics, describing him as someone who “gets things done.”
According to him, the Mpraeso MP’s ability to handle challenging situations and deliver results makes him the ideal choice to lead the NPP caucus in Parliament.
Davis Opoku is presently the Deputy ranking member of the Public Accounts Committee, which further cements his credibility.
His dedication to transparency, accountability, and ensuring the prudent use of public resources has earned him respect both within the NPP and across the political spectrum.
His bipartisan appeal and practical oversight work have made him a standout leader in Parliament.
Mr Ahenkorah underscored the need for dynamic, unifying, and result-oriented leaders like OPK to steer the caucus as the NPP transitions into opposition.
The National Executive Committee are expected to deliberate on these appointments in the coming days, and the call to elevate OPK has further intensified discussions within the party about the need for effective leadership in Parliament.
