The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has announced the postponement of the investiture ceremony for its incoming Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor.
The event, initially slated for today, Friday, December 27, 2024, has been deferred, according to an official statement issued by the university’s registrar. A new date for the ceremony is yet to be announced.
“The general public is hereby informed that the investiture ceremony of Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, previously scheduled for Friday, 27th December 2024, has been postponed.
“A new date for the investiture ceremony will be communicated in due course. We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” the statement read.
Although the university did not disclose reasons for the postponement, reports suggest potential legal complications may have influenced the decision. Rashid Ibrahim, an alumnus of UPSA, is said to have filed a court injunction to stop the ceremony. The legal challenge reportedly stems from allegations surrounding Professor Mawutor’s academic promotion.
This unexpected development has drawn attention to ongoing disputes within the university as stakeholders await further clarification and a new date for the ceremony.
