The Western Nzema Youth League (WNYL), has lauded President-elect John Dramani Mahama for constituting a preliminary team to champion an anti-corruption drive in his next government.
The five-member team is part of a preparatory measure towards the rollout of the President-elect’s promise to recover proceeds of corruption and hold persons responsible for such actions accountable when he assumes office on January 7, 2025.
Dr Patrick Ekye Kwesie, Leader of the WNYL, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the constitution of the team was not only timely but essential for the nation’s progress and development.
He said “Corruption has long been a thorn in the side of Ghana’s socio-economic growth, undermining public trust and diverting resources meant for critical infrastructure and social services.
“The Western Nzema Youth League recognises that addressing this issue is paramount for the country's future, so we believe that this will bring sanity to the political landscape and ensure accountability among public officials.”
Dr Kwesie, thus, congratulated the individuals appointed to spearhead the initiative, acknowledging their expertise and commitment to the cause.
He stated that their roles were crucial in investigating and recovering misappropriated funds, “and the league is pleased to see a diverse group of professionals dedicated to this mission.”
He called on the citizenry, especially the youth, to rally behind the initiative, saying it was imperative that citizens remain vigilant and actively participate in the fight against corruption to help foster a culture of integrity and accountability that would propel the country's development.
A statement signed by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson for the Mahama Transition Team, said the anti-corruption drive, with Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) as a major plank, formed a core part President-elect Mahama’s policy platform in the 2024 campaign, and that he intended to hit the ground running on these commitments.
