The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, has commenced an investigation into a fire outbreak at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools in Accra.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, December 17, 2024, has raised concerns as the site houses the ballot boxes for the Ablekuma North Constituency.
In a statement, the police assured citizens that any individual or group found culpable would face the full rigours of the law.
Authorities have called for calm, urging the public to allow the investigation to proceed without speculation or interference.
The fire adds to a tense national atmosphere following recent elections, with law enforcement agencies continuing to process 132 individuals arrested in connection with post-election disturbances.
According to the police, 45 of these suspects have been remanded into custody, 71 are on police inquiry bail, and 16 are currently on court bail.
While no casualties were reported from the fire, its proximity to sensitive election materials has heightened public interest. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze and whether it was accidental or deliberate.
The police have reiterated their commitment to upholding peace and security, promising transparency as the investigation unfolds.
