A fire outbreak at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools in the early hours of today has raised alarm, as the facility housed ballot boxes from the Ablekuma North constituency.
The blaze, which started around 1:40 a.m., originated in the school’s library, where the ballot boxes were stored.
According to Alex King Nartey, the PRO of the Fire Service, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but investigations are underway.
In a twist to the incident, additional ballot papers were found burned outside the school premises after the fire.
The discovery has fueled speculation about the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
Meanwhile, the operations commander and his team have made progress to extinguish the fire.
The personnel have also salvaged adjoining buildings to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the school.
As at the time of this report, blaze has been confined after two hours of fire fighting, but yet to be fully extinguished.
Authorities are working to piece together the sequence of events and assess the extent of the damage to the election materials.
