A 36-year-old driver who broke into his former boss’ vehicle and made away with GH¢50,000 cash, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.
Emmanuel Klutse, per the CCTV recording, was captured opening the complainant’s car and stealing the money, according to prosecutors.
Klutse, charged with unlawful entry and stealing, pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Mr Isaac Addo admitted Klutse to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties who must be residents with the jurisdiction of the court.
The prosecution was ordered to comply with the rules of disclosure.
The matter has been adjourned to 12 February 2025.
Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Josephine Lamptey said the complainant Theress Rusell Panford, was a Procurement Officer at Kasapreko Company Limited.
Klutse is a resident of Cambodia, a suburb of Baatsona.
On December 4, 2024, the complainant went to his bank to withdraw GH¢60,000 and kept GH¢50,000 in his car which he had parked at the Company’s car park at Spintex.
Chief Inspector Lamptey said at about 4:30 pm, the complainant returned to his car to drive home after work and found out that the money he kept in his car had been stolen.
Prosecution told the court that the complainant quickly sought assistance from the company’s security Department to review the CCTV footage recording.
Per the recordings, it was revealed that Klutse had followed the complainant in his Toyota Highlander which he parked close to where the complainant parked at the company’s car park.
Also, the prosecution said the recordings captured Klutse coming out of his car, looking around, opening the complainant’s car door and picking up the money.
The prosecution said soon after the act, Klutse entered his get-away car.
A formal complaint was lodged with the Police on December 4, 2024, and the accused person was lured from his hideout and arrested the following day.
When Klutse was quizzed, he admitted the offence and confessed to having committed the crime with two other friends who were at large.
The prosecution said the accused indicated that he shared the booty with his accomplices, and he had GH¢30,000 which he used GH¢15,000 out of his share to settle his debt.
Police investigations revealed that the complainant employed Klutse for seven years as his personal driver but parted ways.
It was also disclosed that while Klutse was working with the complainant, he took the spare key along and used it to get into the complainant’s car and made away with the GH¢50,000.
