The Soyaya Movement, a prominent group under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has congratulated John Mahama and the NDC party for their decisive victory in the 2024 general elections.

In their statement, the movement also expressed gratitude to the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, for her unwavering commitment and support during the campaign, describing her as a prospective chief patron of the movement.

Speaking on behalf of the group’s leadership, Dr Yakubu Gowin stated that the landslide victory was a resounding endorsement of the NDC’s manifesto and ideals as the solution to the economic hardships and corruption that defined the tenure of the outgoing government.

“This massive victory shows that the country was yearning for change, and John Mahama, in particular, was the leader Ghanaians needed to reset the nation on the path to growth and prosperity for the masses,” said Dr Gowin.

He described the victory as a “second liberation” or “independence” for Ghana, symbolising the opportunity to recover from what the Movement called the abysmal performance of the NPP government over the past eight years.

“This is a victory for unity, progress, and prosperity for all,” he added.

The Soyaya Movement underscored that Ghanaians endured some of the worst governance in recent history and were eager to move beyond the lost years.

Under Mahama’s leadership, they believe, the nation is poised for a fresh start toward sustainable development.

Dr Gowin assured Mahama and his administration of the movement’s continued support in implementing policies that will stimulate economic growth and accelerate national development.

As a women’s movement boasting over 1.3 million members nationwide, the Soyaya Movement played a pivotal role in the NDC’s victory.

Its leadership, financiers, and members campaigned tirelessly across the country to secure the party’s resounding win.

The Soyaya Movement extended its gratitude to all our national, regional, and constituency executives for the effective mobilisation across the country.

"In particular, we also extend our deepest appreciation to our senior brother and boss, Dr Callistus Mahama, and other key personalities such as Mohammed Ali (Ghana), Dr Sulemana Abdulai Jawula (USA), and Dr Mohammed Tijani (USA) for their invaluable support both financial, moral and strategy that enabled the movement achieved its campaign objectives," it added.
