Ghana's Black Maidens enjoyed a flying start to the WAFU B U-17 Girls' Cup following their victory over Benin on Thursday, December 12.
Christiana Ashiaku scored a first-half hattrick to ensure Joe Nana Adarkwa's picked up a 4-1 win at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.
Priscilla Mensah opened the scoring for Ghana after just five minutes played beating the Beninois defence before tapping into an empty net.
Ashiaku doubled the lead for the Black Maidens in the 17th minute when she scored from the penalty spot.
She scored her second of the day three minutes away from halftime with a delightful lob over the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.
The Rootz Sistaz midfielder netted her third of the game on the 45th-minute mark when Jessica Appiah Asamoah laid on a plate after a brilliant run, extending Ghana's lead to four.
After the recess, Benin got a goal back in the 60th minute to reduce the deficit but that was all they could manage in the game as the game ended 4-1.
The win sends Ghana to the top of Group A.
