The Director of Elections for Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential candidate in the just-concluded 2024 general elections, Nana Ohene Ntow, has urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to view his return to office as a divine opportunity to reset Ghana’s fortunes.

Speaking during an interview on Joy News’ *AM Show* on Thursday, Mr Ntow criticised the leadership of outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo, asserting that his administration had misled the nation and left it in urgent need of visionary leadership.

He expressed confidence in Mr Mahama’s ability to address the pressing challenges facing the country.

"President Mahama’s return should be seen as a God-given opportunity for him to send a signal to the whole country, which has been terribly divided by Akufo-Addo," Mr Ntow remarked.

He also claimed that President Akufo-Addo’s tenure had failed to benefit even members of his own New Patriotic Party (NPP), leaving many within the party disillusioned.

Reflecting on the NDC’s electoral victory, Mr Ntow admitted that while he had hoped Alan Kyerematen would win, he recognised the change in leadership as a reflection of Ghanaians’ yearning for progress.

"Although moving from the NPP to the NDC might be called change, for me, it is a little cosmetic; it’s not dramatic. Had Alan Kyerematen, as an independent candidate, won, that would have been a huge transformation. Nonetheless, it is still change because the status quo under the NPP over the last eight years wasn’t good enough," he said.

Mr Ntow concluded by urging the President-elect to take full advantage of this opportunity to rebuild trust, address systemic challenges, and reshape the political landscape in Ghana.

Meanwhile, as the transition process between the outgoing and incoming administrations commences, several Ghanaians have called on Mr Mahama to seize his landslide victory as a mandate to correct past wrongs and restore the country’s pride.
