Asante Kotoko are ready to support head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum in the transfer window to replace Sudanese players who absconded, says Head of Sporting Affairs, Kwasi Appiah.
AbdoelKarem Yagoub and Esmat Abdulhamid, who travelled to the USA for a friendly against DC United on October 12, reportedly absconded from the team’s hotel, and attempts to reach out to them have proven futile.
The duo was part of the 12 players signed by the Porcupines after parting company with over 21 last summer.
"We did not get a lot players for the first round,” Appiah said in an exclusive interview with Asempa FM.
“At some point, we had issues with selection because of injuries. If the coach submits what he needs, we will support him."
The players had earlier sought permission to go and change money, but their request was declined.
CCTV footage revealed the players had sneaked out of the team’s hotel with no news on their whereabouts.
Meanwhile, the annual ceremonial match, organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in collaboration with the GFA, is part of the Ghana Week DC 2024 festivities.
The Ghana Select Side, including two players from Attram De Visser FC, in addition to other top Ghanaian players based in America, featured after seven Kotoko players were granted visas.
Kotoko, who now sit 7th with 18 points, face arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in a Ghana Premier League super clash on December 15 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
