Director for Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has questioned the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) claims of overwhelming popularity in the Ashanti Region, suggesting their electoral dominance may be overstated.
He made this assertion following the results of the 2024 presidential election, which showed a difference of 669,724 votes between the NPP's Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, in the region.
Dr Boamah further claimed that the NPP’s purported popularity in the Ashanti Region is bolstered by questionable practices.
Highlighting recent incidents, he pointed to the uncovering of 500,000 fake ballot papers in Kwadaso, claiming this discovery undermines the NPP’s credibility.
He argued that had these fraudulent papers been used, the party would be boasting of a fabricated gap of over one million votes.
In his statement on Facebook on Monday, December 9, Dr Boamah accused the NPP of engaging in ballot-stuffing, a practice he suggested has been instrumental in sustaining the narrative of their dominance in that region.
"The NPP is not as popular in the Ashanti Region as they make you believe. They rely on ballot stuffing to inflate their numbers," he stated emphatically.
The Ashanti Region, often regarded as the stronghold of the NPP, has historically delivered significant votes for the party.
