The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has confirmed that the results of the 2024 presidential election will be announced today, Monday, December 9 at 4:30 PM.
The announcement will be broadcast live, and the EC has encouraged citizens to tune in and follow the proceedings from home.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, December 9, Deputy EC chair Samuel Tettey urged supporters of political parties to refrain from gathering at the National Collation Centre. He emphasized that such gatherings are not only unnecessary but also against the law.
“There is no need for party supporters to converge on the collation centre. It is both illegal and unwarranted,” he stated.
Mr Tettey further clarified that only individuals with official accreditation are permitted to access the collation centre and urged the public to respect these protocols.
“Supporters should stay calm and wait for the final results. The announcement will be televised live at 4:30 PM for everyone to witness,” he added.
Already, the National Democratic Congress has called the elections for its presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama based on its collated figures, and the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has gone ahead to call Mr Mahama and congratulated him for emerging victorious according to their own collation of results.
The EC has called for patience and cooperation as it completes the final stages of the electoral process.
The Commission has been heavily criticized for delaying the collation of results as well as the declaration of the president-elect, a situation that has created a lot of tension.
However, according to the Commission, it was still within the 72-hour timeline.
