A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has extended his congratulations to President-elect John Mahama and the NDC following their victory in the 2024 general elections.
The cousin of the outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) after the concession speech by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, acknowledged the significance of the election outcome.
He highlighted the resilience of Ghana’s democracy.
“Congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress for an emphatic victory. The people have spoken. Democracy lives. Let Ghana be the ultimate winner,” Otchere-Darko wrote.

The message reflects a spirit of political maturity, emphasising the importance of prioritising national unity and progress after a highly contested election.
Mr Otchere-Darko’s remarks have been widely interpreted as a call for Ghanaians to rally behind the newly elected administration and continue to uphold the democratic values that have defined the country’s political landscape.
The congratulatory post aligns with similar sentiments expressed by Dr Bawumia in his concession speech earlier, where he urged supporters of the NPP to respect the people’s decision and focus on Ghana’s future.
