Henry Quartey, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central and Interior Minister, has lost his seat to Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Quartey, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 23,345 votes, falling short of Tubazu’s winning tally of 29,755 votes.
Charles Kwame Adams of the National Democratic Party (NDP) garnered 163 votes, while 287 of the 53,550 ballots cast were rejected as invalid.
The NDC’s triumph in Ayawaso Central forms part of its broader success in the 2024 elections, flipping additional constituencies that had long been NPP strongholds.
In Mpohor, Henry Godfred Bentil of the NDC claimed victory over the incumbent MP, John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie. Bentil received 11,680 votes, significantly outpacing Sanie’s 8,299 votes.
In Sekondi, NDC candidate Blay Nyameke Armah defeated Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the sitting MP. Armah obtained 14,558 votes, representing 56.40% of the total votes cast, compared to Mercer’s 11,084 votes (42.94%).
Out of the 25,813 votes cast in Sekondi, 171 ballots were rejected.
