The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a warning to voters, stating that any violations of the law during the ongoing elections will be met with appropriate legal action.
Dr. Benjamin Bano-Bioh, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, served the notice during a scheduled press briefing held on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Dr. Bano-Bioh emphasised that the EC is committed to ensuring a smooth and peaceful election process, and this can only be achieved when all participants abide by the rules.
He made it clear that any individual who attempts to disrupt the process or break the law will face the full force of the law.
The Director also urged voters to exercise their rights responsibly and respect the election regulations, which are in place to safeguard the integrity of the democratic process.
He further stressed that those engaging in unlawful actions, including violence or intimidation, would be held accountable.
Dr. Bano-Bioh reiterated the EC’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections. He called on all stakeholders, including voters, party agents, and officials, to maintain the peace and uphold the law throughout the election process.
"So far the processes have been smooth and I hope it continues this way because no one will be let go should he or she break the law. Everyone will be held accountable," he warned.
