The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, visited his father's grave in Bole-Bamboi to offer prayers before proceeding to cast his vote.
The gesture was a poignant moment, reflecting his cultural traditions and personal values.
Speaking to journalists after the solemn act, Mr Mahama explained that prayer, especially to one’s ancestors, is a key aspect of his culture.
He noted that during moments of anxiety or uncertainty, turning to one’s roots for guidance and solace is not only comforting but also wise.
“This is part of our culture,” Mahama stated.
“When faced with anxious moments, it is customary and meaningful to seek strength and direction from our ancestors through prayer.”
His visit, he added, was both a personal ritual and a way of honouring his family’s legacy.
Mahama’s act resonated with many, as it highlighted the importance of maintaining cultural practices even amidst the demands of political life.
Following his prayers, he proceeded to join other voters in the Bole-Bamboi constituency to exercise his democratic right in Ghana’s pivotal elections.
