The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu in the Volta Region has thrown a challenge to Old Tafo constituents in the Ashanti region, asserting that capturing the seat for the first time for the NDC is within reach.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa argues that since other candidates have successfully broken ground by winning seats traditionally held by either the NPP or NDC, it's entirely plausible for the NDC to secure the Old Tafo constituency seat.

Mr Ablakwa made these remarks while addressing party faithful during a recent visit to the area.

“Why can't we win this seat? We absolutely can win it on December 7. We should aim to do so, just like other candidates who achieved record-breaking wins in seats that others believed were out of reach. We can achieve the same with this seat," he stated.

The North Tongu MP believes the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Old Tafo Pankrono, Sahmudeen Mohammed Kamil, has a distinct edge, innovative policies and tireless efforts, which should secure the seat.

"If you have the right candidate – a dynamic, knowledgeable candidate with integrity, respect, and strong policies, that's what matters. He (PC for Old Tafo) has all of these qualities," Ablakwa said

Mr Ablakwa stated that a political party lacking a clear message, vision, and proven track record after eight years in power will inevitably turn to exploit religion to further their political agenda.

He is hopeful former president John Dramani Mahama would be elected as a president.

The Parliamentary Candidate, Sahmudeen is confident that the Old Tafo constituents are now more informed and receptive to his campaign promises.

“It is not the party you are coming from, it is the policies that you are bringing on board, that they are going to use to determine whether they will vote for you or they will not vote for you,” Sahmudeen said.

The PC mentioned that constituents have told him his policies would benefit them, which is why they plan to vote for him. He added that while they have traditionally voted a certain way, this time, things will be different.

Some of the party supporters are confident the party will snatch the seat from the ruling NPP. They say they are relentless in their campaign until the election is won by them. 

"We are doing the campaign corner to corner. I know for sure Sahmudeen is going to win this election hands down," Suweiba Suleiman Musah, constituency deputy women organiser for the party. 

Suweiba says the feedback they get from people is overwhelming and that is an indication they are making headway. 

Other members of the party such as Osman Jalil are also calling for change.
