Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has tasked the Black Satellites to win this year’s African Youth Championship in Senegal.
The national U-20 team will leave their camping base Antalya, Turkey for the tournament which begins on Sunday. The Black Satellites won all two friendly matches against Azerbaijan and Danish lower division side Ringkobing IF.
Ghana reached the final of the last tournament in Algeria in 2013 and lost on penalties to Egypt.
President Nyantakyi wants coach Sellas Tetteh and his team to win the trophy.
“The first task is to qualify for the World Cup and then try and annex the trophy which has eluded us since 2009,” said Nyantakyi in an exclusive chat with Joy Sports.
“I believe the team is up to the task, we need to provide them the needed support and that is why we are giving them all the support they deserve.
“In terms of technical expertise and financial support , you can see right away that our intention is clear and that intention is to help the team win the championship.”
Ghana open their campaign against South Africa on March 9 before facing Zambia and Mali.
