The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called on Ghanaians to reject Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, in the forthcoming elections.
He criticised Dr Bawumia for attempting to dissociate himself from the economic difficulties and governance failures experienced under his tenure as head of the Economic Management Team.
In an interview on Channel One TV on Wednesday, 4th December, Mr Kwetey accused Dr Bawumia of evading accountability for the current economic challenges that have left many Ghanaians struggling.
He argued that while the NPP flagbearer has been eager to claim credit for any achievements during his tenure, he has remained silent on the hardships endured by the population.
Mr Kwetey described this behaviour as a selective approach to leadership, suggesting it undermines Dr Bawumia’s credibility and suitability to lead the nation.
He stressed that a leader who refuses to take responsibility for failures cannot inspire confidence in their ability to govern effectively.
“As far as this election is concerned, you have a situation where you have a candidate on the NPP [Bawumia], who is trying very hard to distance himself from the difficulties and at the same time trying to take advantage of the limited successes."
"You see a real conundrum here, he’s not got the courage to own up to the problem and say this has been me, I have been part of this driving and the processes I own it. I’m responsible. But no, I’m not responsible for the minuses, but the positive ones, he says it’s my policy, it’s my contributions.”
