The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has clarified that no soldiers will be stationed at polling centres during the upcoming elections.
In a statement signed by Brigadier General Eric Aggrey Quashie, Director General of the Department of Public Affairs, the GAF explained that their role will be limited to standby support, with the Ghana Police Service (GPS) taking the lead on election security.
The military will only deploy personnel upon specific requests from the GPS.
The statement emphasised a collaborative approach to ensuring a smooth and peaceful electoral process while upholding law and order, aligning with the GAF’s commitment to national security during the elections.
The GAF also called on the public to report any individuals impersonating military personnel or wearing unauthorised military gear.
Such incidents should be reported to the nearest police station or through the GPS toll-free numbers: 18555 or 0800 311 311, for immediate action.
The Armed Forces further urged citizens to cooperate with all security personnel to contribute to a peaceful and successful election.
