Sika Kroabea celebrating after lifting the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup

Sika Kroabea emerged as winners of the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup following an exhilarating victory over Ghana Link on Saturday at the Ghana International School Football Park.

The victory earned them an all-expenses-paid trip to Anfield to watch a Liverpool home game of their choice, courtesy of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana.

The Tema-based company triumphed 2-0 on penalties after an enthralling five-a-side game ended goalless at full time.

With full knowledge of the prize at stake, both teams contested each duel as if their lives depended on it.

Despite showcasing entertaining and high-quality football, the match could not be settled in regulation time, meaning the lottery of a penalty shootout would decide the ticket to Anfield.

The Sika Kroabea goalkeeper was the hero, saving three penalties to secure a victory for his team.

The winners took home medals, a giant trophy, and, most importantly, a ticket for seven members of the team to watch a Liverpool home game at Anfield, including a tour of the famous stadium.

“This is our first time going to visit Anfield,” said Ibrahim Mdaihly, a player for Sika Kroabea. “We are really happy and we played good games and Alhamdulillah that we’re going to Anfieldl. In Sha Allah, we are waiting now to go and visit UK.”

The tournament and trip to Anfield are made possible courtesy of Standard Chartered Bank’s partnership with Liverpool.

“So they [Sika Kroabea] will get to choose [which date to go to Anfield], which is great," said Asiedua Addae, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand, and Marketing at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, during the trophy ceremony. "They also get to choose any home match of their choice, and it could even be next month, but it's really up to the winning team to choose."

Talking about the level of competition, she stated that, “It's just been amazing. I think the teams came, they knew very well what the prize was, you know, going to Anfield is exciting.”

The 2024 Standard Chartered Cup, which was exclusively for Standard Chartered clients, featured eight teams divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group advanced to the semifinals, with Sika Kroabea ultimately taking home the coveted prize. The trip to Anfield initiative has been running since 2015.
