The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante-Twum, has disclosed that a section of the Executive Council (ExCo) has expressed doubts about Otto Addo's ability to lead the Black Stars.
This follows the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the first time in 21 years that Ghana will miss the continental tournament.
Otto Addo was summoned on Wednesday, 20 November, to present a detailed report on the qualifiers to the ExCo in a meeting that lasted close to five hours.
Speaking on Game Plan on Joy FM on Friday, 29 November, Asante-Twum revealed that the council was divided over Addo’s future.
"There were members who argued that they do not believe he [Otto Addo] is the right man to take the team to the next level.
"This includes the World Cup qualifiers and possibly future tournaments because he has a long-term contract," he explained.
However, some ExCo members supported Addo, suggesting that he could build a competitive team with adequate backing.
"There were those who thought, based on the factors he presented, we could put a strong team together to work with him, form a new management team, and provide all the necessary support for him to succeed," he added.
On the contrary, others viewed Addo’s recent performance as a red flag.
"If you play six matches and are unable to win a single one, then what is the point? We have to move on without him," one faction argued.
Ghana finished last in Group F with only three points, failing to win a single match during the qualifiers—a historic low for the Black Stars.
