Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto Committee, has cautioned Ghanaians against taking the campaign promises of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate seriously.
He urged citizens to critically assess the feasibility of Bawumia’s proposed policies.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on 26th November, the former Sports Minister raised doubts about key aspects of Bawumia’s economic agenda.
These include plans to introduce a flat tax rate, remove the e-levy, safeguard public finances, and significantly expand road infrastructure.
Mr Ankrah argued that these promises lacked credibility, given what he described as a history of unfulfilled commitments by the NPP candidate.
“You trust Bawumia at your own risk,” Mr Ankrah remarked. He warned that Ghanaians should be wary of entrusting their future to someone who, in his view, has consistently failed to deliver on pledges."
“This is someone who, together with Nana Addo [President Akufo-Addo], made a litany of promises which remain unmet,” he added.
Mr Ankrah called on voters to reject Bawumia’s campaign messages, expressing confidence that the NPP candidate would not meet his commitments.
He emphasised the importance of scrutinising political promises to avoid what he described as the risks of misplaced trust in leaders with a track record of unfulfilled expectations.
