The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of collaborating with the Electoral Commission (EC) to manipulate the outcome of the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Speaking at a mini rally in Sekondi, located in the Western Region, on Tuesday, 26th November, Mahama alleged that the EC had enlisted 65 NPP members to serve as temporary staff for the elections in the Gomoa East constituency in the Central Region.
He claimed that the individuals in question were confirmed members of the NPP, holding official party cards, and had been recommended to the EC by an NPP Member of Parliament along with other party executives.
According to Mahama, this development substantiates the NDC's longstanding concerns about a potential alliance between the EC and the ruling party to skew the election results in favour of the NPP.
He emphasised that this situation was a clear indication of electoral interference, urging his supporters to remain vigilant in the face of these allegations and to safeguard the integrity of the election process.
“We all have to be vigilant and keenly observe the polls because we can vote well, but some thieves will rig it. I have seen a video from Gomoa East which contains a recording showing that one NPP MP and his executives submitted 65 party members to an EC official who added them."
“So if such a person is the one at the polling station, do you think he will allow the polls to be fair? That is why we have always been saying that there is a collusion between the EC and the NPP to rig the elections and we have evidence from Gomoa East," he stated.
