The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Samson Asaki Awingobite, says the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party will hold a meeting next week.
According to him, the purpose of the meeting is to decide which of the two major parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or New Patriotic Party (NPP), the PNC will support in the December polls.
At a brief press engagement on Wednesday, November 20, at the PNC headquarters in Accra, Mr Awingobite said the party is open to discussions with other political parties that may seek their support.
He added that, although the PNC was disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) from participating in this year’s presidential election, they do not believe in wasting their votes, hence the need to support another party contesting in the election.
The PNC, along with ten other parties, was disqualified from the presidential race by the EC due to alleged errors in their nomination forms.
The PNC led by its flagbearer Bernard Mornah, has filed a lawsuit against the EC, alleging that the Commission violated constitutional provisions by not allowing him the opportunity to correct the errors.
The EC disputes this claim, explaining that while they pointed out some errors, those deemed criminal in nature were not communicated to the aspirants.
At the Accra High Court, the case was dismissed. However, the party is pursuing the matter against the EC at the Supreme Court.
