The Ghana Hotels Association is investing in the health of its clients after donating to support the Asantehene’s revenue mobilization drive to raise $10 million to renovate the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The association donated cash to the tune of GHS100,000 as its first tranche to support the project.
Not until now, the 70-year-old facility had no extensive renovation resulting in deterioration of the wards and offices.
Spearheaded by the Asantehene, the hospital which was in a debilitating state is now seeing some of its wards in advanced stages of refurbishment.
Although mobilized funds for the project are currently about 40% of the $10 million target, roofing works, painting, and installation of wiring and toilet facilities are nearing completion.
Ashanti Regional President of the Association, George Arkoh Mensah says the donation would not only cater to the healthcare needs of themselves but also their clientele.
“We decided to invest in this project so that most of our clients who visit our facilities would have the best of care should they fall sick when they visit the region for economic activities or any relaxation endeavours. We believe this would go far to even support ourselves and families,” he said.
Mr. Arkoh Mensah led a delegation of hoteliers in the region to make the cash presentation and tour the facility as works continue aggressively.
The group was impressed with the work done thus far as the project team race against time to have Phase One of the renovation works completed by close of November this year.
When completed, the facility would serve as a magnificently modernized edifice delivering the best of healthcare to the Ashanti region and 12 other regions of Ghana.
