The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Tuesday, said there is no justification for President Akufo-Addo erecting his statue in Takoradi at a time when many Ghanaians are facing economic hardship.
She said Ghanaians are wallowing in abject poverty as prices of goods and services skyrocket on the watch of the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government, adding that women, in particular, bear the brunt of the present economic hardship.
The vice presidential candidate of the NDC said this when she paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Wungu, Sulemana Saka Adams, in the Walewale constituency to kickstart her two-day campaign tour of the North East Region.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang, who is in the North East Region to ramp up support for the John Mahama for the President 2024 campaign, said the NPP government has failed to create jobs for the youth and this has led to high unemployment in the country.
She gave the assurance that the next NDC administration will work hard to ease the economic hardship confronting Ghanaians.
The next NDC government, she said, will introduce policies, including the 24-hour Economy, the Big Push, Women’s Development Bank, and the National Apprenticeship Programme to provide jobs, empower women and develop the country.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians to discontinue voting for the NPP government that keeps on inflicting pain and hardship, adding “the time to change is now.”
She urged voters to vote for NDC presidential candidate, Mr John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said a vote for Mr Mahama and the NDC would help to reset the country for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
