Bawah Fuseini, the Acting Director of the National Sports College (NSC) in Winneba, is determined to elevate the institution to international standards and restore its original purpose of developing sports professionals in Ghana.
Established in 1984, the National Sports College was created with the mission of enhancing the capacity of technical human resources in the sports sector through training, research, and workshops. It was also designed to provide facilities for national team camps and nurture emerging talent across various disciplines.
However, despite its potential, the college has struggled to fulfill these objectives due to years of neglect and insufficient investment in infrastructure and programs.
Two months into his appointment as Acting Director, Fuseini is focused on revamping the facility and implementing reforms to ensure it meets global standards.
"One of my policies that I presented to the [Sports] Ministry was that we have to make this place an international training center, not only for football or for tennis, but for at least six to seven disciplines,” he told Joy Sports.
“So, people can come here to train, people can come here to camp, people can come here for courses, people can come here for capacity building.
“Now, this college was established alongside GIMPA. GIMPA was to train professional public and civil servants.
“And this college was to train professional sportsmen, sports administrators, and sports coaches. So, we need to go back to those basics."
