Chairman of the Economic Sub-Committee for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manifesto, Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah, has commended the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, noting its significant impact on students and families throughout Ghana.
He believes that the policy has been transformative, especially for families previously struggling with the costs of secondary education.
According to Dr. Assibey-Yeboah, the Free SHS programme has lifted a financial burden from parents and increased educational access for many young Ghanaians.
He suggested that those who have benefited from the initiative are now eager to support the NPP in the upcoming elections, seeing the policy as a substantial improvement in their lives.
In an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, 11 November, Dr. Assibey-Yeboah addressed criticisms of the NPP’s performance since assuming office in 2017.
He responded to claims of underperformance by highlighting the government’s achievements in various sectors, which, he argued, reflect its dedication to fulfilling campaign promises.
He pointed out that in addition to education, the NPP has made progress in areas such as agriculture and social interventions, demonstrating the government’s commitment to nationwide development.
According to him, these advancements underscore the government’s overall approach to improving the lives of Ghanaians.
Dr. Assibey-Yeboah also observed that Members of Parliament are often approached by constituents seeking help with school fees.
The Free SHS policy, he noted, has eased this pressure on both families and MPs, allowing legislators to focus on other community needs while parents benefit from reduced financial strain.
“People are happy; those who have benefited from Free SHS are lining up to vote for the NPP. You might take it for granted, but these initiatives mean a great deal to people,” he said, stressing that the policy’s impact on everyday lives should not be underestimated.
