Premier League referee, David Coote, has been suspended following the emergence of a video in which he made inappropriate remarks about Liverpool and their former manager, Jürgen Klopp.
In the footage, Coote used expletives to describe Klopp, who left Liverpool in the summer after nearly nine years in charge.
Coote also called Liverpool FC "s***" and criticised Klopp's behavior, recalling an incident during a match in the 2020-21 season when Klopp accused him of lying and being arrogant.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) confirmed Coote's suspension, saying: "David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete."
Coote, who officiated Liverpool's 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday, was criticised by some fans for not stopping play when Mohamed Salah was fouled by Leon Bailey, allowing Darwin Núñez to score after the advantage.
In a second clip, Coote is heard expressing concern over the video's potential impact on his career, with another man suggesting, "Let's not ruin his career."
