Asante Kotoko suffered their third straight defeat in the Ghana Premier League after a 1-0 loss to Bechem United in their week 10 encounter on Sunday.
The Porcupines were aiming to bounce back from a recent winless streak but were dealt a blow when Bechem midfielder Kofi Tompuo scored a sensational goal just before the half-hour mark.
Kofi’s goal-of-the-season contender - a volley from about 30 yards - left Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara helpless, putting the home side ahead.
Camara managed to redeem himself later by stopping a powerful attempt from Augustine Okrah, keeping the scoreline at 1-0.
Kotoko struggled to respond, with their best chance falling to Dauda Saaka, who failed to find the target.
Despite Kotoko’s efforts, Bechem held on for their third win of the season which moves them up to ninth place with 14 points.
The result intensifies pressure on Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, whose side are now winless in four matches.
The Porcupines, who have now lost ground in the title race, sit sixth with 15 points, five behind league leaders Gold Stars.
They will look to end their poor run when they face second-placed Nations FC at home in their next game, while Bechem United travel to play Berekum Chelsea.
