Ghana coach Otto Addo has explained his decision to appoint Jordan Ayew as the new captain of the Black Stars for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) qualifiers.
Kudus had previously been named captain for Ghana’s underwhelming performances, including a 0-0 draw against the Central African Republic at the Accra Sports Stadium and a confidence-crushing 2-0 loss to Sudan in Libya.

An international window later, Addo has decided against continuing with the West Ham star as the team's captain.
“I have decided to appoint a new captain, which will be Jordan,” Addo explained. “I spoke to Kudus to help him understand that I want him to grow into this role and serve as the second captain alongside Djiku.” Said explained at the squad naming.
“Jordan will take over from now, and he will lead and guide the team.”
While Kudus remains a crucial player for Ghana, Addo expressed confidence that Ayew’s leadership will be pivotal in the team’s push for qualification.
The Black Stars will face Angola on November 15 in Luanda before taking on Niger three days later in Accra.
Ghana currently sits third in Group F, with just two points from four games.
