The Abena Dokua Educational Foundation (ADEF) held its 2nd Annual Fundraising Dinner on October 19, 2024, in Springfield, Virginia, raising over $30,000 to support Ghanaian students and improve educational facilities across Ghana.
Attended by over 100 supporters, the event was filled with purpose and unity. Guests enjoyed fine dining, live entertainment, and inspiring testimonials from individuals impacted by ADEF’s work.
The funds raised will support upcoming projects focused on expanding access to quality education in underserved communities.
The evening’s highlight was a speech by keynote speaker Ato Commey, JD, a dedicated advocate for education and equal opportunity.
Sharing his own story, Commey stated, “Education was my bridge to opportunity. Supporting young students and educational facilities is not only transformative for individuals but essential for community growth and societal advancement.”
His words deeply resonated with the audience, underscoring the importance of ADEF’s mission.
ADEF President Kwaku Boateng expressed gratitude for the support received, recognizing both longstanding and new supporters.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity and dedication of our supporters,” Boateng said.
“This event not only moves us closer to our fundraising goals but also strengthens our commitment to making a lasting impact in Ghana.”
He also highlighted recent accomplishments, which reflect ADEF’s dedication to educational development.
Among these achievements, Boateng noted the foundation’s completion of a classroom block in Kona in the Central Region, expanding school capacity.
He also mentioned the refurbishment of an old classroom block in Ave-Afiadenyigba (Volta Region), creating a safe learning environment.
In the Eastern Region, ADEF constructed a 12-seat toilet facility in Kyebi, enhancing sanitation standards. Additionally, schools in Asikuma Breman (Central Region) received projectors, classroom furniture, and uniforms.
Thousands of exercise books and other essential learning materials were also distributed to ease financial burdens on families and improve student experiences.
The evening focused not only on past achievements but also on future goals. With funds raised, ADEF plans to undertake new projects to address educational challenges in Ghana.
Mr Boateng shared that ADEF aims to expand its reach to underserved areas where resources are limited.
Upcoming initiatives include building new classrooms, providing technology resources, and supplying essential learning materials, all to improve education quality for Ghanaian students.
Mr. Boateng concluded with an appeal to donors and partners to stay engaged with ADEF’s mission, emphasizing that every contribution makes a difference.
“With your continued support, we can build on the foundation we’ve laid and create sustainable change. Our work is far from done, but together, we can transform educational opportunities for countless children in Ghana.”
