The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced plans to develop an "Airport City" in Manhyia North, Ashanti Region, if elected as Ghana’s next president.

Drawing inspiration from the Airport City project in Accra, Dr Bawumia shared this vision on the third day of his Ashanti Region tour, pledging to bring similar economic and infrastructural benefits to the Kumasi area.

During a speech to supporters, Dr Bawumia emphasized his prior experience in overseeing airport projects, including those in Kumasi and Tamale, to demonstrate his capability to deliver on this ambitious plan.

He referenced his role in negotiating with the UK government to secure support for these projects, which he sees as a foundation for establishing a major airport-centred hub in Manhyia North.

Dr Bawumia explained that this project would help stimulate the local economy and bring tangible benefits to residents, similar to the impact of the Accra Airport City.

He envisions the proposed development as a gateway to new business opportunities, job creation, and enhanced infrastructure, bringing a wave of growth to the Ashanti Region.

Appealing to voters, Dr Bawumia urged them to support his bid for the presidency, promising accountability and a clear focus on regional development if given the mandate.

“If you vote for me, by the grace of God, I can serve as president for eight years and will come back here to give you an account of my work,” he assured.

Encouraging his supporters to rally behind him, Dr. Bawumia asked, “Promote me and let me be the president. Give me the steer and let me drive.”
