The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has urged stakeholders to stop creating unnecessary fear and allow the system to function properly.
He stated that the Parliament is not out of service, as many have criticised, and called for an end to the panic and fear-mongering.
“Stop pressing the panic buttons and fear-mongering. Let the system work,” he said.
Mr Bagbin made these remarks when he addressed the press on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in Parliament.
According to him, he has over 30 years of experience in parliamentary service and more than 40 years in public service.
He emphasised that, with his extensive experience, he could not lead the third arm of government into disarray.
He therefore announced that the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic is alive and functioning.
During the Supreme Court's proceedings on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo fumed over the happenings. She said the country is in a constitutional crisis.
"This is a constitution crisis, we’re living in a country where the Parliament is not sitting, What is going on?” she quizzed.
Mr. Bagbin added that it is his wish to leave Parliament as strong as it was before he became its leader.
The Speaker’s comments follow the Supreme Court’s stance on the case of the vacant seats.
