The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has promised that his next government will establish an Agro-processing factory in the Guan District of the Oti Region.
According to Mahama, the area deserves such an initiative to boost the local economy.
“We are going to create an Agro-industrial zone. We are going to encourage the private sector, with support from the government, to set up a factory here to buy all the ginger that you produce and process it for the market,” he promised the constituents during his ongoing regional tour of the area.
The former president, who is seeking re-election, also promised the people of Guan another factory that will process cereals for the ready market. “We will set up another factory here to buy and process all the rice that you produce in this district,” he said.
Also speaking about the district’s absence in Parliament, Mr. Mahama urged the people of Guan to boldly reject the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December polls.
He said, “Indeed, SALL {the Guan speaking people}, you have to show the NPP government that you are not happy with how they have treated you over the last four years. Nobody in the Guan district should give their vote to the NPP so that they will know that, the way they have treated us, we are not happy.”
Mr. Mahama, therefore, called for a 100% vote for the NDC in the district, saying, “So, you are not going to give the NDC 95%; you are going to give the NDC 100%.”
The former president also promised that his future government would prioritise infrastructure development in the new region, focusing on health, roads, education, and sports.
