UN Special Representative Leonardo Santos Simão shared his observations regarding Ghana’s political landscape, urging the opposition to engage constructively with both the Electoral Commission and judiciary.
In an interview with Evans Mensah on Joy News' PM Express on Tuesday, he acknowledged that opposition leaders have raised specific concerns, particularly around voter registration and transparency.
However, he found the Electoral Commission receptive to addressing these issues.

“One of the opposition’s main concerns was the voter registration process,” Mr Simão said.
He noted that the Electoral Commission had held an open meeting with political parties to address these doubts.
“The openness of the Commission to work with all partners is clear,” he added, highlighting that such efforts are critical to establishing mutual trust.

When asked about opposition concerns regarding the judiciary, Mr Simão expressed confidence in the institution’s adherence to the law.
“The judiciary operates within legal limits, but the interpretation of the law sometimes isn’t straightforward,” he noted.
Mr Simão explained that improved judicial communication could help clarify these interpretations for the public.
Finally, he emphasised dialogue as crucial, encouraging both the opposition and the Electoral Commission to foster continuous interaction.
“Continuous communication is essential to building a transparent and credible electoral process,” he stated, underscoring his hope that both parties engage openly.
